Jianshui Zitao originates from Jianshui County, Honghe, Yunnan Province, China. The Wan Yao Village in Lin'an Town is the only original place of Jianshui zitao, with a history of nearly a thousand years in ceramic production and firing. The production process of Jianshui purple pottery was formed during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and reached technical maturity during the middle and late period of the Republic of China. It is named "Jianshui Zitao(建水紫陶)" because the fired products exhibit a reddish-purple color. Jianshui purple pottery, characterized by its techniques of carving, inlaying, and polishing without glazing, has become one of China's "Four Famous Pottery". Its production process can be divided into six major steps: clay preparation, hand-thrown molding, wet-mold decoration, carving and inlaying, high-humidity firing, and polishing without glazing. The essence of Jianshui Zitao lies in decoration, and its skill lies in carving and inlaying. For over a century, craftsmen have used pottery as paper, creating secondary works based on different shapes of traditional Chinese poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving, which has become a unique way of pottery art and has been passed down through generations. It can be said that Jianshui Zitao is a perfect combination of traditional literati calligraphy and painting arts with local pottery craftsmen.

建水紫陶发源于云南红河州建水县境内，临安镇碗窑村作为建水紫陶唯一原产地，距今已有近千年的陶瓷生产烧造历史,建水紫陶制作工艺形成于清代道光年间，至民国中晚期达到技艺成熟,因其烧造成器呈现出赤紫的颜色，因而得名“建水紫陶”,建水紫陶以刻绘填泥和无釉磨光为主要工艺特征的技艺传承，成为我国“四大名陶”之一,其制作工艺可分为六大工序，依次为泥料制备、手工拉坯、湿坯装饰、雕刻填泥、高湿烧制、无釉磨光,建水紫陶重在装饰，技在刻填,百余年来，匠人们以陶为纸，根据不同器形对中国传统的诗书画印二次创作，成为一种独特的陶艺呈现方式而传载于世，可以说建水紫陶是传统文人书画艺术与当地制陶工匠的完美结合,
